The Process
To have a bespoke suit made is the height of luxury for anyone. Having a garment made by hand to your exact measurements and styling is the result of skill that is generational knowledge. Our Savile Row and tailoring teams around the world spend over 60 hours on each suit applying their skill and handwork to make clothes that are made to last and transcend fashions.
Consultation
The process starts with a consultation with one of our tailors, whether that be in New York, Savile Row or Stockholm or on one of our trunk shows around the world. At each of our our shops we offer the same cloths, skill and attention to detail.
With one of our tailors you will discuss what the suit is intended for, be it a wedding suit or shooting suit or simply a jacket you want to become your "go to”.
We have a library of nearly 10,000 cloths to select from, all from the leading mills of Europe and this will of course in many ways determine the overlook and feel of the piece. It can also have an impact of the price – cashmere costs a little more than wool and vicuna more still.
Once we have found the cloth for you and settled on the style, which we will walk you through the options showing you examples for each and every option its on to the measurements.
Measurements
The measurements consist of detailed body measurements and posture configurations as well as garment & stylistic specific measures - like how wide or slim would you like your trouser bottoms. We make our suits in collaboration with our customers, we don’t want to dictate being mindful that the very essence of bespoke tailoring is that we are making something truly unique each time.
From these measurements our cutters draft a unique pattern for each and every item or order. Doing this on paper ensures we can accurately translate this on to your toile cloth and have a toile garment prepared ready for a first fitting.
The Fitting
We will then invite you in for a fitting where we will look and assess together the fit of the garment and review the styling. For each and every new suit we always opt to start with an initial toile as it also enables us to change the styling, especially for first time customers, where any details might need to be changed.
After this fitting we then recut each customers pattern and make the necessary adjustments, no matter how small to ensure the perfect fit.
We then use this pattern once again to chalk and mark up the suit on the final cloth ready for another fitting and for as many follow on fittings as the tailor and customer feel are needed. The suit has at this point had all its final handwork applied which are the hall signs of a true bespoke suit, the hand sewn buttonholes, padding, linings are all in place and after a final press the garment is ready for collection which is around 10 weeks after our first meeting.
Finishing & Aftercare
Our suit makers, the cutters, tailors, finishers and tailoring consultants work as a team on each and every one of our garments to ensure that it’s not only perfect in fit but also in style and make. We are the only tailor on Savile Row to employ a skilled Quality Control team whose sole role it is to hand check every garment, every seam and detail to ensure no suit leaves without the team's stamp of approval.
When you have invested not only your money but also your time in having something made, it's hugely important to ensure that you look after it correctly and when each garment is collected we email you with care instructions for each piece. We are also here to service the life of the garment and welcome the garments to be brought back to us to press, send for cleaning or simply to give it a once over. Each of our suits is made with inlay to allow future alterations to enable the suit to be let out or simply passed down to the next generation.
